OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - Delmarva Power is cutting power to hundreds of customers in part of Ocean City as storm surge flooding submerges electrical infrastructure that serves the downtown area.
The utility announced Saturday night in a news release that the service interruption will remain in effect until it is safe to re-energize the equipment. About 620 customers south of North Division Street and Baltimore Avenue are affected.
Delmarva Power says crews will re-evaluate the situation in several hours. Officials call the power cut "a last resort" done in the interest of public safety and protecting the infrastructure.
