Salisbury Looking to Expand the Port Along the Wicomico River

SALISBURY, Md- The city of Salisbury has been awarded grant money to see how it can expand its port along the Wicomico River.

City leaders want a larger port to bring more goods in and out.

"There is no multi-user terminal, this would be brand-new, this could be an expansion of the port," says Salisbury Mayor Jake Day.

Bill Chambers, executive director of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, says any addition to the port would bring boats, jobs and big bucks.

"Expanding this would add new customers, use your imagination, it could bring tens of millions of dollars," says Chambers.

The $37,500 study will help the city identify how much this expansion could cost and help solidify plans for expanding the port.

City leaders believe a larger port would bring more companies to Salisbury.

"This is an opportunity for new companies who are not in Salisbury to come here and have access to terminals," says Day.

More space the city hopes brings more money to the local economy.
