SALISBURY, Md.- It's been one year since an EF-1 tornado ripped through Salisbury, flipping cars, destroying homes, and damaging businesses. In just minutes, the tornado torn through town, about one and a half miles in a northeast direction.
One of the businesses that took the brunt of the destruction was Hopper's Tap House, located on South Salisbury Boulevard. The back building was ruined; the ceiling torn off, walls caved in.
But the spot where the collapsed building stood looks completely different just 365 days later. The debris has been removed and the tap house now says the space is used as an extra parking lot.
"I was a little bit paranoid and freaked out," Bethany Nosenzo said as she recalled the chaotic day.
Nosenzo works just a few yards from where the tornado touched down.
"We saw the storm kind of roll through and the sky looked a little bit funky, and I have zero experience with tornados!" she said.
Once things settled down outside, Nosenzo went to go check it out for herself.
"Some of the people that work with me, like me had never seen a tornado or anything like that, so it was kind of a first experience. It was equal parts horror, but also kind of spectacle," she explained.
The back building has been cleared for about eight months, according to employees at Hopper's. They hope by next year something else will be standing where the back building once was, but for now they remain tight-flipped about their plans.
