Tim Kennard River Run Keeps Legacy Alive in Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md.- Tim Kennard lost his battle with cancer in 2004, but his legacy lives on through an annual run in Salisbury.

Tim was an avid runner with the Eastern Shore Running Club, so organizer Harlan Eagle says it was the perfect way to remember him.

"When he was diagnosed with kidney cancer we told him we wanted to do a run in his honor and he said just make it the best race you can, highest quality and help kids and animals," Eagle said.

And over a decade later Tim's sister, Dodie, says it's amazing to see how the race continues to grow and serve the Salisbury community.

"We never thought it would survive. We thought the first year would be like a one and done and it was amazing and now 16 years later here we still are," Dodie said.

The 5K and 10 mile run benefits Coastal Hospice, Coalition of Care and Horizons Salisbury.  All organizations use the proceeds for children and animal programs in Wicomico County.

"He'd be amazed, he'd be amazed at his name. He's a brand. He'd be amazed," Eagle said.

Suz Jones-Hochmuth says it's the course around the Wicomico River that makes this race in particular so enjoyable.

"I like running in this area, I live in this area, it's familiar and comfortable and people had camp chairs in front of their houses and cowbells in front of their houses so that felt really good," Jones-Hochmuth said.
