NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Uber drivers will no longer be able to pick up passengers at the Norfolk International Airport.
The Norfolk Airport Authority has told Uber not to send its drivers to the airport until it pays for an operating permit.
Uber representatives said Monday their drivers will now only be able to drop off people at the airport. The ride-sharing company added that airport officials are imposing high fees that would make the cost of using the services expensive for riders.
Robert Bowen, deputy director of Norfolk International, says under state law, airports have the right to control and require permits for entities that operate on their property.
The airport currently requires a $5,000 permitting fee, a $10,000 security fee and $2 per pickup and drop off.
