PARKSLEY, Va. (AP) - The Virginia State Police has identified two people who were killed after a tractor trailer and sedan collided in Parksley.
State Police said in a statement that they were called early Sunday, April 17, to a crash on Lankford Highway and that when they arrived the sedan, a 2001 Kia, was on fire. State Police said in a statement that when the fire was extinguished they found two individuals in the car had died. State Police said the two people were burned beyond recognition and that officials were attempting to identify them and to notify family.
On Monday, May 9, the Virginia State Police received confirmation from the medical examiner's office that both victims were identified. The driver was identified as Joel Aguilar-Vasquez, 34, of Parkes Road in Parksley. The passenger was identified as Hugolino Aguilar-Vasquez, 18, of Eden Street in Salisbury.
State Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that the Kia was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck the tractor trailer head on. State Police say the driver of the tractor trailer had minor injuries.
