Del. Man Killed in Early Morning Crash in Smyrna

MILLSBORO, Del. - The Delaware State Police have identified the driver in the deadly crash east of Millsboro that happened Tuesday morning.

On Wednesday, police say 31-year-old Shena L. Coverdale, of Millsboro was killed when the 2001 Buick Century she was driving was hit by another vehicle.

According to police, around 8:50 a.m. Tuesday morning, Robert M. Weaver, 49, of Millsboro, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup westbound on Mt. Joy Road just west of Cordrey Road. Police said Coverdale driving eastbound on Mt. Joy Road, approaching the Silverado. Police said for unknown reasons, the Silverado went off the north side of the roadway, re-entered the roadway and rotated sideways. The vehicle crossed the double solid yellow line and went into the eastbound lane of travel, striking the left side of the Buick Century, police said.

According to police, the truck continued off the south side of the roadway where it flipped multiple times before coming to a stop on its left side. The Buick was forced off the south side of the road where it came to a stop, police said.

Robert Weaver was properly restrained and was taken by EMS to Beebe Healthcare where he was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Coverdale, police said, was also properly restrained and taken to Beebe Healthcare where she was pronounced dead.

The investigation into this crash is continuing and no charges have been filed at this time. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Corporal N.
