HARTLY, Del.- A married couple in their 80s has been identified as the two people found dead in a suspected murder-suicide that happened Tuesday near Hartly, Delaware, state police said.
Police on Wednesday identified the pair as 87-year-old John James and his wife, 81-year-old Mary James.
The investigation began shortly before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when troopers were called to a home on the 4000 block of Arthursville Road for a welfare check, said Cpl. Melissa Jaffe, a Delaware State Police spokeswoman.
After arriving at the home, two people were found dead inside the house, Jaffe said.
The bodies were turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death.
The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is continuing its investigation into what is being described as a suspected murder-suicide.
