WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. – A plane's test flight at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility next week will close a nearby road for about 20 minutes.
Drivers will not be able to use Route 175, between east of the intersection with Atlantic Road and the entrance to the NOAA tracking facility, for a 20-minute period between 1 and 2:30 p.m. on April 1.
Wallops officials say the road closure is a matter of public safety, and once the remotely-piloted aircraft has proven that he can operate safely from the runways, future flights will not require the shutdown.
Backup flight days are between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m on April 2, 3, 6, 7 and 13 - 17.
