WICOMICOCOUNTY, Md. - The Wicomico County Council voted in favor of signing up for a private opioid litigation.

After weeks of back and forth about joining into the lawsuit, a 4-2 vote allows the county to hire a private attorney.  The lawsuit will go after opioid manufacturers and distributors for settlement money to bring back into Wicomico County to fight the epidemic.

"We're still impacted every month. We get the overdose reports. We see this lawsuit as a potential to deal with those ramifications," Assistant Director of Administration Weston Young said.

Young says if a national class action suit arises within the coming weeks, the county will be automatically signed up for that settlement opportunity.
