SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County Job Fair hosted employers and applicants at the Worcester County Convention Center today from 10 a.m.-6pm.Open county jobs range from a correctional officer position to election judge.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in Wicomico County throughout June 2021 was about 6.6%. Wicomico County Roads Division superintendent Lee Outen said they need hope to fill positions soon to reduce the workload of current employees.
"It's been challenging we're still getting the work done but more people would make life easier for everyone," said Outen.
16-year-old Tyler Parsons said his is entering the workforce for the first time.
"I'm a little nervous. It's my first time being at a job fair. I'm trying to get like a starting job because I've never had a job before so that's why I'm here," said Parsons.
Russ Hochstaetter said after being out of the work force since moving to Delmarva, he's ready to get back in.
"We have a five week old baby at home right now so I wanna support her and we have a two year old son so I wanna get back at it I wanna get working," said Hochstaetter.
