DELMAR, Md.- Donations from this year's Heacook Fest are lending a hand to one local family.
It all began with an auction, Chris Filippelli of Surface Solutions donated a new driveway to the festival. Organizers decided to send the money to the Robinson family, who's daughter is fighting stage 3 cancer. Filippelli says his company was happy to help out.
"Being able to be that hand to lean out and say you know we're here to help you and how can we help you is the impact everyone wants to have if they have the opportunity," said Filippelli.
The driveway was bought by Greg Whitten, who said he was personally touched by the Robinson's story.
"I am a cancer survivor, I know when I found out I had cancer how it rocked my world and my family's world, so when I found out this young lady had cancer I wanted to step forward and help the family out," said Whitten.
Cpl. Keith Heacook's sister says this is a wonderful way to remember her brother while helping the community.
"Too young to have anything like this happen to her. I just keep everyone in my prayers that everything goes well and she gets through this," said Feaster. "Keith would have wanted it."
Cpl. Keith Heacook's uncle Larry Schwarz says Heacook Fest and this donation is how his nephew would want to be remembered.
"You send your first responders out, and you hope they come home but they don't always do, Sometimes you loose them. So the fact that they can continue this with Keith is just amazing. They have a little piece of him living on," said Schwarz.
During this sensitive time, the Robinson's felt more comfortable letting others like Anita, Chris, Greg and Larry tell this story, but wanted to share how thankful they are for all of the support from the community.
