Bennett Middle School

FRUITLAND, MD - The Wicomico County Sherriff's Office says a 13-year-old student at Bennett Middle School assaulted another student and two teachers yesterday, with one teacher requiring medical treatment at Tidal Health as a result.

According to police, the student allegedly assaulted the second student Monday, October 16th. A teacher reportedly tried to separate the classmates, leading the first student to allegedly strangle the teacher, according to police.

Police say a second teacher was then allegedly assaulted when they tried to pry the student off the first teacher.

The first teacher was taken to Tidal Health by EMS for her injuries.

The Sheriff's Office says the 13-year-old was taken to the Sheriff's Office and the case was forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Services. The minor was released to his parents with electronic monitoring to await a Juvenile Court appearance, police say. The juvenile is charged with Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, and Reckless Endangerment.

The student's identity was not released due to his age.
