SALISBURY, MD - The massive bicycling event Sea Gull Century is set to take off tomorrow, October 14th, with about 3,500 cyclists expected to participate.

The bike tour, with two optional routes stretching 63 miles and 100 miles respectively, is to begin and end at Salisbury University. Cyclists who opt for the 100-mile tour will travel a loop all the way from Salisbury to Assateague State Park and then back.

In all, cyclists are set to traverse Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester Counties Saturday morning.

Ahead of the event, Salisbury University has issued a traffic advisory for Saturday, October 14th. The University says heavy bicycle traffic should be expected from 6-10 a.m., most notably on Route 13, Milford Street, and South Division Street. Participants will begin multiple heats from 7-9:30 a.m., the University says.

South Division Street between College Ave and Milford Street southbound in Salisbury will be open only to event parking traffic, according to SU. Northbound traffic will be restricted to event traffic and residents who live in the restricted area.

The University also says Bateman Street will remain closed throughout the day.

Delmarva residents can expect a heightened Maryland State Police presence along the bike routes.

Coordinators urge both cyclists and motorists to exercise extra caution while the bike ride is in motion. Riders should be off the roads by 5:30 p.m., Salisbury University said in a statement.

A full list of tomorrow’s road closures and traffic changes can be found here. Full maps of both bike route circuits are available on Sea Gull Century’s website.
