BERLIN, Md. - State police are investigating the deadly crash on Route 50, at the intersection of Caleb Road.

Maryland State Police say the crash happened around 11:30 a.m. According to troopers, a minivan was traveling westbound when, for unknown reasons, the minivan drifted off-road and struck a tree.

Troopers say the driver and sole occupant, later identified as 74-year-old Linda Jean Hopkins, of Ocean City, died at the scene.

The westbound lanes of Route 50 were closed briefly for the crash investigation. The Maryland State Police, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Berlin Fire & EMS, and Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration personnel responded to the scene to assist.

Authorities say the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
