BERLIN, MD - The Town of Berlin has been selected as one of the top 25 finalists in Hallmark Channel’s Merriest Christmas Towns Contest.

The town is encouraging community members and visitors to vote for Berlin. The competition is part of Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas celebration. The winning town will be the backdrop for a new holiday movie.

This would not be the first time that Berlin has made it to the silver screen. Runaway Bride, 1998, and Tuck Everlasting, 2001, were filmed in the town.

Economic and Community Development Director Ivy Wells said the town has been handing out postcards and fliers with QR codes directing people to vote.

"Interestingly enough, the Hallmark Channel reached out to us and asked us to nominate ourselves, so how do we turn down that?” Wells said.

The holiday season in Berlin features a real Christmas tree, adorned with oyster shells decorated by the public. A parade, concerts, holiday market and Kringle Cottage round out the festivities.

"It feels like you're walking in a Christmas movie,” Lauren Falotico said.

Falotico moved with her family to Berlin from outside of Washington, D.C. seven years ago. The small town charm is part of what drew her in and now she says she would like to see that on screen.

"I think it would just pull everything together and make sense,” she said. “When we watch Hallmark movies, that's sort of the vibe. It's charming and so I think it's a perfect fit."

Each person can vote once per day through Sept. 4 for Berlin through the Hallmark Channel’s Merriest Christmas Towns Contest.
