SALISBURY, Md.- Sears Holdings on Friday announced plans to close 80 more Sears and Kmart stores across the U.S. in late March, including the Sears located in The Centre at Salisbury mall in Salisbury.

The company said it informed associates at the 80 stores the news of the closings on Thursday.

Liquidation sales at these stores are expected to begin in two weeks. The accompanying Sears Auto Centers at these Sears stores will also be closing.

This is in addition to the previously announced closure of 40 unprofitable stores expected to be completed in February 2019, the company said.

The Sears location in Salisbury has been a staple, being one of the original stores with the Centre at Salisbury when it opened in 1990.

WBOC reached out to the Salisbury location but were told a comment could not be made.

Since filing for bankruptcy earlier this year, Sears Holdings has announced plans to close more than 260 of its approximately 700 stores, or more than a third of its locations.

WBOC also reached out to Sears Holdings but were told a comment could not be made beyond what the press release issued.

And earlier this year, Sears Holdings shut down the Kmart, located at Business Route 50 and Tilghman Road in Salisbury. That building remains vacant.

Whoever is interesting in buying out the troubled company had until 4 p.m. Friday to put in a bid. If someone did take the bid, the remaining Sears and Kmarts will stay open for business and thousands of jobs could be saved. As of right now, Sears Holdings only has one public bidder. If Sears Holdings receives no bids, the company could either extend the deadline or liquidate its assets.
