Sheree Sample Hughes

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes, a Democrat from Wicomico County was voted out of her leadership position as Speaker Pro-Tem during the start of Maryland's legislative session on Wednesday.

Sample-Hughes held the number two position under Speaker Adrienne Jones. But Jones and Sample-Hughes' relationship soured over the summer, and Jones announced her intentions to replace Sample-Hughes with Dana Stein, a delegate from Baltimore County.

Sample-Hughes told WBOC at the time she believed her removal was for not voting in line with party leaders enough.

"This position has never defined me and to that end I have to continue the work that the people of District 37A sent me here to do," she said.

This leaves no Eastern Shore representatives in majority party leadership in the House.
