DELMARVA - Delmarva Power announced they are partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation’s Energy-Saving Trees program to offer free trees to plant at customers' homes.
Delmarva Power says residential customers can request a free tree to plant at their homes during the partnership. The initiative is part of the energy company's partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation’s Energy-Saving Trees program to "enhance energy efficiency".
According to Delmarva Power, when trees are planted correctly and become matured, they can reduce energy bills by 15%-30% by shielding homes from the sun in warmer months. In addition to reducing energy bills, the trees can also improve the quality of air in the area. "The trees distributed by Delmarva Power since beginning its partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation in 2012 are expected to absorb more than 206,635 lbs. of air pollutants, save nearly 27.3 million kWh of energy and provides nearly $11 million in combined energy and community benefits. ", says Delmarva Power.
Customers can choose their trees from a list of species including River Birch, Eastern Redbud, and more. Delmarva Power will provide a total of 730 trees to customers. Free tree requests are first-come first-served.
