DOVER, Del.- This year's annual State of the Base briefing showcased past accomplishments and what's in the works.

Among speakers were all three members of Delaware's congressional delegation.

U.S. Senators Tom Carper, Chris Coons and Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester emphasized DAFB's vital role in providing crucial aid to nations dealing with humanitarian crises.

"Without the Dover Air Force Base the chances for the Ukrainians to actually continue to be a free, democratic country are very small," Carper said. "The work that goes on here is felt worldwide."

Many voiced appreciation for the nearing completion of a $42 million state-of-the-art hangar project, designed to facilitate full servicing of the base's largest aircraft in any weather condition.

Another ongoing initiative involves constructing a three-story dormitory for incoming airmen. This looks reduce the need for junior airmen off-base housing.

Coons underlined his commitment to securing funding for an essential project outlined in the defense authorization act—a new $30 million whole blood supply depot.

"Right now we have an outdates whole blood supply center that is not here on base and it has created a lot of health and logistical challenges," he said.

Carper also mentioned goals set for improving base schools, aiming to guarantee top-notch staffing and facilities.
