DOVER, Del.- Two days after a shooting occurred outside of Towne Point Elementary School in Dover, the school will be reopening tomorrow.
Students will return to Towne Point Elementary Thursday, August 30, 2018 with enhanced police presence around the school in addition to School Safety Monitors. Teachers continued working on Wednesday to prepare for students with different levels of anxiety. Capital School District says the incident will be acknowledged in each class and students who appear to be struggling emotionally or have questions will be allowed to speak with school and mental health counselors. Extra counselors and social workers will be on hand to assist in the possibly traumatic situation.
The Dover police continue to investigate, and they believe this incident is an isolated occurrence because of certain factors which cannot be released due to the nature of the investigation. There is currently a person of interest that has been identified and is being sought by the police.
The school district also says they hope that students "can continue [the] school year in a positive way."
