Groundbreaking Ceremony for Solar Farm Near Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md.- A solar farm is under construction in Worcester County and on Thursday Ocean City officials held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the construction.

"This energy is not being produced from a fossil fuel like coal, this energy is bring produced from a renewable source so this is clean renewable energy," says Executive Director of Distributed Energy Origination, Brandon Quinlivan.

This project comes as Ocean City leaders continue to fight an offshore wind farm project. Town leaders are against the wind farm project, mainly because of the project's location.

But Ocean City leaders say they're pleased with the solar farm location.

"I think this is a great example of what you can do, and I think everybody knows we have some concerns about wind turbines, whereas the solar farm project is something everybody supports," says Mayor Meehan.

Ocean City officials say another perk to this project includes a lower energy rate which means less money out of taxpayers' pockets.

"I like the title of saving money that's good, never argue about saving money, I think the project is a positive thing," says George Balunis, an Ocean City taxpayer.

Clean energy and less money for taxpayers. A project the resort town says is a win-win for all.
