Fatal Crash in Stockton

ELLENDALE, DE - The Delaware State Police are investigating a Saturday night pedestrian crash in Ellendale that left one Harrington man dead. 

According to police, at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday, a Toyota was driving south on Dupont Blvd. in the left lane. At the same time, another car was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Dupont Blvd and Milton Ellendale Highway while the cars in Dupont Blvd had the right of way. Police say a passenger of the stopped car got out and then walked into the intersection, where he entered the path of the southbound Toyota and was struck. 

The pedestrian, identified as 23-year-old Malachi Gibbs, of Harrington, died at the scene. 

The driver of the Toyota, a 32-year-old man from Milton, suffered minor injuries. 

Delaware State Police say the roadway was closed for about 3 hours Saturday while the scene was investigated and cleared. 

Authorities continue to investigate the crash and ask any witnesses to call them at 302-703-3264.
