Godspeed Historic Tall Ship

ONANCOCK, Va. – The Town of Onancock announced yesterday the historic replica tall ship Godspeed will be in the Onancock Wharf and Marina Oct. 6-8.

The ship is reserved for interactive student experiences on Oct. 6, but will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 7 and 8, according to a Facebook post.

Godspeed’s crew will give visitors a glimpse into colonists’ journey across the Atlantic centuries ago. The ship is one of three replicas built by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation to commemorate the arrival of Virginia’s first European settlers.

Along with the Susan Constant and Discovery, the original Godspeed sailed from London in 1607 and the flotilla of three became known as the “official fleet of the Commonwealth” according to the Jamestown-Yorktown foundation.

Godspeed took to the Chesapeake in 2006 and has since traveled port to port offering an immersive educational experience.
