Humane Society of Wicomico County

SALISBURY, MD - The Humane Society of Wicomico County is without a full-time staff veterinarian, prompting an urgent search for someone to fill the vacancy.

Kimberly Nock, Executive Director of the Humane Society, tells WBOC the former staff veterinarian recently left the shelter.

Several kind local vets, however, have stepped up to help the Humane Society as they search for a full-time permanent replacement, according to Nock.

Still, the need for a staff veterinarian comes as the need for medical treatment and surgeries for both shelter animals and local pets is on the rise.

“We had 78 pages of people in Wicomico County who were waiting to have their animals spayed or neutered,” said Nock.

Nock tells WBOC the lack of a full-time vet can also delay animal adoption, as they don’t like to adopt out unaltered animals.

“There is a huge need for low-cost spay-neuter,” Nock said of Wicomico County. Spaying and neutering at the Humane Society also helps keep the unwanted animal population down in the County.

Nock asks neighbors in Wicomico County to spread the word in the hopes that more local vets hear about the Humane Society’s vacancy and possibly help out.
