SALISBURY, Md. - As many people logged online to get their holiday shopping in on Cyber Monday, there were small businesses that also got in on the action. T
iffany Moore owns a hair salon in Salisbury and is also the owner of "Classic Lady Brand". She says deals like her Cyber Monday promotion help her business to stand out.
"Deals! Deals! Deals! And consistency," Moore said. "You know, the 'Buy 2 get 1', or '20% off. And constantly. Posting so they can constantly see your face because the bigger brands, they have the money for the marketing, so we just pull from what we have and do what we can do."
Nicole Rogers, who owns "Two Scoops Ice Cream and Waffles," does not sell online but says she is continuing her in-person "Shop Small Saturday" deals into the week. She said the community response is what she enjoys the most.
"That's my favorite part of "Shop Small Saturday" - - they do come out specifically to shop the local business owners and the local vendors," Rogers said. "And they love coming to quant little shops that have different this that Walmart or Target or Amazon doesn't have.
And it's that unique aspect that makes shopping locally special, especially in the fashion world.
"There's nothing like a small business," Moore said. "It is not the big brands. You may go outside and see 12 people who look like you, but if you shop small you will shop uniquely. You'll look different just different out of the box. no one will be your twin ill put it that way. "
Martha Ogburn is the owner "Barefoot Baby Boutique," and uses her online presence to keep people informed on what she offers in her store. She credits the community's desire to shop locally for keeping her business up and running.
"It's remarkable though the way people have gravitated to shopping locally", Ogburn said. "That's become the focus and they do want to see big box stores put small mom-and-pop's out of business. And so I think that helped immensely."
So whether online or in person don't forget your fellow neighbors as you are shopping this holiday season.
