3 Arrested On Drug Charges In Laurel

LAUREL, Del.- Delaware State Police arrested three people after a warrant attempt led to the discovery of drugs and paraphernalia.

Members of the Sussex County Governor's Task Force responded to the 29000 block of Discount Land Road in Laurel Monday night to conduct a warrant attempt for 42-year-old Richie Hurley.

According to police, Hurley is a level three probation absconder and was wanted on a superior court capias for failure to appear for drug court. 

As an officer began to approach the side door of the home, a man, identified as 23-year-old Dwayne Hurley, of Bridgeville, left the home and suddenly turned away and ran back inside when he noticed the police presence. A brief chase reportedly ensued. Officers were able to take him into custody inside the home. He was searched and was found to be in possession of cocaine, police said.

Richie Hurley was also inside the home. He was taken into custody without incident due to his wanted status. He was searched and found to be in possession of a large amount of suspected drug proceeds, police said.

While inside the home, officers allegedly found drug paraphernalia and a children's "Paw Patrol" bag filled with a large quantity of cocaine and other narcotics and drug paraphernalia. A 24-year-old Delmar man was also found hiding in the garage, according to police.

Richard Hurley was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $127,750 cash only bond. Dwayne Hurley was released on a $2,000 unsecured bond, and the Delmar man, who was not named by police, was released on a $500 unsecured bond.
