CAMBRIDGE, Md. - New horizons are on the way for maritime history in Dorchester County. The Richardson Maritime Museum is setting sail, preparing to move from its headquarters off High Street to a four-acre plot of land near Sailwinds Park.
Executive Director Jane Devlin says it won't be easy - as a non-profit, money is their biggest hurdle.
"The consolidation of all operations to the new location is a major turning point," Devlin said. "It's years off but the need is there and we have the motivation and we have the resources to do it."
Volunteers have been working on special projects to boost profits and show off a little bit of Dorchester County history. The Lee Sar, built in 1951 by famous Dorchester County boat builder Bronza Parks, is up for auction. It's a chance for someone to own history and help it out too.
Interested bidders on the Lee Sar can schedule a viewing with the Richardson Maritime Museum by calling 410-221-1871.
The sealed-bid auction takes place next Saturday. Devlin says the money will go right back into the museum for their future home, including a new building and a trade school.
