SELBYVILLE, Del.- The town of Selbyville is opening their doors to a brand new town hall and a police department building.
Town officials of Selbyville and the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. They commemorated the opening of a new landmark in downtown Selbyville.
Members of the community gathered for the ceremony to show some support. Selbyville Town Administrator Stacey Long says this day has been a long time coming.
"We are right in the center of downtown, we have a lot more parking, more accessibility in the building", explains Long.
Selbyville's plans for the new town hall began back in 2018. This building was once a former PNC bank and is now transformed into a state of the art facility. Selbyville Police Department Chief Scott Collins says their previous police department was only one room. Collins says their new spacious space will help his police force succeed.
"We were able to update a lot of our technology in our department to allow future growth and expansion", says Collins.
The former Selbyville town hall was opened back in 1989. After 30 years of residing on 68th Church Street, the renovations started back in January 2019. The town closed for only one day where they then move to their new home in the heart of Selbyville on September 10th, 2019.
Mayor Clifton Murray of Selbyville says the new town hall will showcase the beauty and history of Selbyville. Murray says it is also a way to serve the future of the town.
"We are a growing community and the growth keeps coming a long. We are getting more officers and more police, so we need more office space", explains Murray.
Virginia Pepper has been working for the town for over 49 years. Peppers currently works as the Selbyville Administrative Assistant. She says it's this move that means the most to her.
"It's a great opportunity to still be here and get to be able to enjoy this nice facility", says Pepper.
The new town hall is located on 1 West Church Street in Selbyville. Town officials say it's open to everyone in the public.
