MILFORD, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly crash that killed one man Saturday afternoon on Route 1 in the area of Pine Haven Road in Milford.
Troopers say shortly before 1:30 p.m., a Mercury Marquis traveling eastbound on Pine Haven Road, stopped at a posted stop sign at the intersection of Coastal Highway.
Police said that for reasons still unknown, the driver of the Marquis continued through the stop sign and was hit by a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was traveling southbound on Coastal Highway approaching the intersection of Pine Haven Road.
Police say the driver of the Marquis, a 72-year-old man from Harrington, died as a result of the crash. His name is being withheld until next of kin of notified. His passenger, a man from Sioux Falls, S.D., was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. They were both were wearing seat belts, according to troopers.
Responding officers say the driver of the pickup truck, a 30-year-old man from Georgetown, Del., and his passenger, were wearing their seat belts and were not injured.
Coastal Highway in the area of Pine Haven Road was closed for an extended period of time while the crash was investigated and cleared by police.
The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
