DELAWARE - Latino voters are playing a vital role in helping to elect either Joe Biden or Donald Trump. But they are not voting for the same candidate.
Results have shown that Latinos are divided in this year's presidential election.
"The future of many Hispanics are in the hands of this election," said Charito Calvachi-Mateyko, the vice-president of the Delaware Hispanic Commission.
Latino Americans are playing an important role in this election as the largest minority group eligible to vote according to Pew Research.
But they're not all voting the same.
Dreamers who spoke with WRDE and Telemundo Delmarva say a win from Biden means hope.
"We've seen what Trump has done in just four years. With Biden, he's promising something better in regards to DACA, " said Ana Sanchez a DACA recipient at Delaware State University.
But others say a win from Trump means more opportunity.
"We need a president who knows how to manage the country, we need a president who thinks about humanity, " said Mario Morales, a local Trump voter.
Susana Lemus from Wilmington says it's the young Latino voters who have the power.
"Young Latinos have the power to vote, vote for their parents, their family, but it's their parents' responsibility to show them the importance of their vote," said Lemus.
Although the presidential race in Delaware was not a tight one, that wasn't the case in swing states like Florida.
According to NBC News, much of Florida's Cuban-American and Venezuelan vote went to Trump.
We spoke with a Delaware resident who is of Venezuelan background who supports Trump.
"My parents came from Venezuela and socialism destroyed the beautiful country that it was and Trump will never let that happen to us," Sebastian Buenaño said.
But Rossana Arteaga Lopenza, also a Venezuelan from Delaware disagrees and supports Biden.
"We do not want to be handed anything. We want opportunities, good education for our children, access to healthcare," explained Arteaga Lopenza.
Calvachi-Mateyko adds that fear has always been a tactic in elections.
"Fear creates thoughts and when fear is based on all these ideas that politicians say for their own interest it affects people," she added.
Latino voters agree that the Latino vote is vital in the presidential election and hope to see more Latino involvement in the local elections as well.
