MARYLAND - The University of Maryland school system will begin using distance education methods for the rest of the Spring semester, according to UMES President Heidi Anderson.
In a letter sent to students Thursday, Anderson said teacher will continue teaching classes using other means than in-person, including phone conference, Blackboard assignments, emails and other online methods.
Classes will resume for the spring semester beginning March 30, according to the letter.
Anderson says students will have to come back to campus to gather personal belongings in the next week and stressed the need for an orderly reservation process to maintain social distancing. That means only a certain number of people will be in one building at a time.
Meanwhile, the letter states the school system is still working on "creative solutions" to celebrate commencement for those meant to graduate May 2020.
"We are all in this together. We will continue to learn and grow together. In 2035, I fully expect we will look back on this and all have learned a multitude of lessons about ourselves – our resilience, our strength, and our flexibility, as a campus community and as individuals," Anderson wrote.
