SALISBURY, MD - The Salisbury Police Department is actively investigating a fatal overnight car crash just north of Salisbury University.
According to a social media post by the Department, the crash occurred near S. Salisbury Blvd and Lloyd St. at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Salisbury Police say all individuals inside of the vehicle were under the age of 18 so identities will not be released at this time.
It is unclear how many people were in the vehicle, but Salisbury Police confirmed one person died and another is in critical condition.
Salisbury Police also tells WBOC that the driver is facing a long list of charges in connection with the crash. Those charges include driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol per se, driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, reckless driving, Negligent driving, Negligent manslaughter - automobile, criminal negligence, manslaughter by vehicle, homicide by motor vehicle, exceeding the maximum speed limit, failure to drive right of center and failure to control speed to avoid a collision.
In another Facebook post Saturday morning, Wicomico County Emergency Services urged drivers to be cautious on Rt 13 between South Blvd and College Ave. The roadway was closed indefinitely due to the crash.
Nearby businesses reported power outages due to a downed power line in the area, forcing some to delay opening Saturday morning.
Maryland State Police tells WBOC its crash reconstruction team assisted the Salisbury Police in investigating the accident.

The Delmar Fire Department and other organizations shared condolences on social media for the death of a student after an accident.
Delmar School District shared the following statement from Superintendent Andrew O'Neal.
"On behalf of the entire Delmar School District community, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of one of our dear students and to all those who are suffering due to his heartbreaking loss. We join the community in sharing our thoughts and prayers as we all endure the shock of this unspeakable tragedy. The entirety of our community is reeling, in pain, and in deep sorrow. We are grateful to our neighbors, as Wicomico County Public Schools and our nearby Delaware school districts offered additional counselors to be on hand to support our students and staff in supplement to the assistance we will be providing in the coming days. We are sure that further private and public efforts will be underway in short order to express the community’s outpouring of support for the family at this most difficult of times."
Delmar Wildcats Football shared this statement on social media:
"We ask for your thoughts and prayers for our team and our community at this time. Anyone in need of support please feel free to come to the high school where school staff and counselors are [available]. Thank you."
We are awaiting further information from Salisbury Police on the accident and the identities of those involved.
