SALSIBURY, Md.- Plans to build a new Beaver Run Elementary School in Wicomico County are one step closer to reality. Construction documents have been submitted to the state for approval. Those documents lay out plans for the new building.

"There are some structural issues at Beaver Run, just a lot -- it needs to be updated to the fact where students need to be in a more conducive environment, more up-to-date environment," said Wicomico County Public Schools Director of Communications Paul Butler.

The 98,000-square-foot building will house pre-K through second grade and feature many updates.

"It's going to have a community center built into it, a wellness center, a nice gymnasium," said Butler. "It's just going to be amazing."

Once the construction documents are approved, the hope is to begin construction in March 2020 and have the school open by fall 2022.

Butler said the new Beaver Run Elementary will cost about $45 million, with funding coming from both the state and county.
