SALISBURY, Md.- Prince Street Elementary School in Salisbury put on a multicultural show to highlight the diverse cultures represented at their school.
The school makes it a focal point to recognize the rich cultures of its students.
"Our school is very unique; we have over 11 different cultures here," said Elizabeth Bacon, the school's community program coordinator.
That's why they the school puts on a multicultural show every year, to embrace the countries their students and families are from.
"About 130 kids speak English as a second language, we represent 15 countries and speak 12 different languages...I think it's important for kids to be able to see other kids who don't look like them and learn a little bit about their culture," said Principal Jason Miller.
Countries all over the globe were represented, including China, India, Haiti, and Argentina.
"It makes me feel good to know that in our community they welcome everybody and diversity is a big thing so it makes me feel very proud about that," said a parent after the show.
Some students say they look forward to this performance every year, and some even volunteer to do it because it's important to them.
"I get to show everyone my country because not everyone knows about Belize," said a former student who volunteered.
The school's message is simple: be proud of who you are and where you come from, and respect each other's differences.
"Be proud of who you are and where you come from, even though you may be born in the United States but your parents were born in another country, then you should represent your parent," said Bacon.
