MILLVILLE, Del. -- A Powerball lottery ticket worth $1 million was sold at the Giant supermarket in Millville on Monday.
On Friday, Joseph Nofsinger with the Delaware Lottery Commission told WBOC the winner has yet to come forward.
"It could take up to a year," says Nofsinger. "We've seen it take a long time, so it's not unusual for it to not be claimed at the moment."
The lucky buyer picked all the correct numbers, except the jackpot Powerball number. Now, Nofsinger says the winner just has to show up to the Dover commission office with their ticket in hand to claim their reward. He says they have 12 months to do so.
Giant shopper Carol Malone says she would put the money toward retirement if she were the lucky winner.
"A million dollars would really help," says Malone. "It would get us there sooner."
Shopper Peter Vatalaro says even though none of his Powerball numbers matched on Monday, he hopes the prize puts Millville on the map.
"It's great that something local like this could happen," says Vatalaro. "Hopefully, it's a local individual. It would be nice."
The estimated jackpot for the next drawing on Saturday night is $1.4 billion. It's the world's fifth largest lottery prize.
