MARYLAND - Maryland deer hunters using muzzleloading firearms will have the chance to return to the outdoors tomorrow as the second half of muzzleloader deer season is set to resume.
With the first half of muzzleloader deer season running in October, the second half is slated for December 16th through December 30th, according to Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Sika and white-tailed deer can be harvested using muzzleloader guns during the season.
Deer hunters are required to wear daylight fluorescent orange or pink during the season in one of the following ways: a cap of solid fluorescent orange or pink, a vest or jacket with back and front panels of at least 250 square inches of orange or pink, or an outer garment of camouflage at least 50% fluorescent orange or pink above the waist.
“The late muzzleloader season is a vital part of the successful management of Maryland’s deer population,” Maryland Department of Natural Resources Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Karina Stonesifer said. “It is a great time of year to get out into the woods and to introduce someone new to the traditions of hunting.”
DNR says hunters should consult the Maryland Guide to Hunting and Trapping for information on bag limits, registration procedures, and other regulations. More information on the muzzleloader season, along with season bag limits and other deer hunting regulations, can also be found in the 2023-2024 Maryland Guide to Hunting and Trapping.
