Duck Gear

DELAWARE - Delaware hunters might soon see a new addition to their game bird hunting schedule if a bill, currently making its way to Legislative Hall, gains approval. The proposed legislation, sponsored by Representative William J. Carson, aims to extend the hunting week to include Sundays.

The current duck season in Delaware spans from October to late January, with specific dates regulated by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) to manage population levels. The proposed bill would maintain DNREC oversight on these dates.

While Sunday hunting is already permitted for deer in Delaware, the bill aims to expand this practice to include waterfowl.

Kelly Racz, from Kelly's Hunting and Sporting Goods in Millsboro, said his customers would love an extra day to the week, especially if the season is not shortened as a result.

"The general consensus with my people right now, the average blue-collar worker who works Monday through Friday, they only get Saturdays to hunt. Having that extra day would be a game-changer for them," said Racz.

A committee hearing discussing the bill will take place within the next twelve business days.
