POCOMOKE, MD - The Pocomoke Police Department has arrested a 19 year-old man after they say he struck his stepfather in the head with a machete, according to police statements and charging documents obtained by WBOC.
According to charging documents filed by the Pocomoke Police, officers initially arrived at Cherry Street in Pocomoke on reports of an assault last night, November 29th, just before 10 p.m. There, police say they found a man with a significant head wound, according to the documents. The victim was identified as Marvin Roundtree, of Pocomoke.
In their statements, police say the suspect, covered in blood, exited the home on Cherry Street while they were attending to Roundtree. The suspect, identified as Jakeim Smullen, 19, was arrested and taken to the Pocomoke City Police Department for processing. Smullen is identified in police statements as Roundtree’s stepson.
Roundtree was airlifted to Christiana Hospital for his injuries. His current condition has not yet been confirmed.
Officers also say they found a machete about a foot long laying in the grass outside of the home.
Smullen has been charged with the following:
-Assault 1st Degree
-Attempted 1st Degree Murder
-Attempted 2nd Degree Murder
-Reckless Endangerment
-Possession of a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Injure
-Assault 2nd Degree
