Israel Labastida Cambridge Escape

CAMBRIDGE, MD - The Cambridge Police Department says a suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting and escape from Eastern Shore State Hospital that occurred in August.

As WBOC previously reported, on August 1st, a black car drove up to the hospital just after 5:30 p.m. and a suspect allegedly shot multiple times at a window. The then unknown suspect then kicked the window in, police say, allowing a patient to escape. The patient, identified as Darrlin Lee Jeter, 19, of Rockville, was later located in Montgomery County. Police continued to search for the alleged shooter and getaway driver.

On December 5th, the Cambridge Police Department announced their joint investigation with the Rockville Police Department had identified Israel Labastida Jr, 19, of Glen Burnie as that suspect. Police say they arrested Labastida on Tuesday and seized several items including a 9mm handgun.

Labastida is being held on no bond pending trial and charged with the following:

-Conspiracy to escape in the first degree

-Assault- First degree (7 counts)

-Assault- Second degree (7 counts)

-Reckless Endangerment (7 counts)

-Handgun on person

-Loaded handgun on person

-Firearm use/ Felony-Violent crime

-Malicious destruction of property

 

The Cambridge Police Department says more charges against Labastida are pending in Rockville.
