Coastal Areas Across Delmarva Are Experiencing Heavy Flooding

FENWICK ISLAND, Del. - Coastal areas across Delmarva are experiencing spots of major flooding. Parts of Fenwick Island were under water Thursday and water levels are expected to rise over the next 24 hours.

Flood warnings and flood watches have been in effect and will continue through Saturday evening.

The flooding is a result of all the recent rain and higher than normal tides. Storms are expected over the next 48 hours, so that will contribute to the flooding as well.

At six a.m. Thursday morning, Doug Poindexter walked outside to begin painting his friends house in Fenwick, but due to heavy flooding, Poindexter had to alter his plans.

"I had to wait in my truck," Poindexter said. "It was pretty deep. Couldn't walk on the ground. It was all through the street. It was a lake out there."

Homes located on the bayside of Fenwick Island saw the effects of the flooding. But resident, Donna Blanck, whose lived in Fenwick for 20 years, said she's used to it.

"It's normal if we have high waters or storms come through, we can't complain," Blanck said. "It's just were on low land."

Salisbury University student, Logan Giles who is studying meteorology, drove to Fenwick to see the flooding for himself. Giles said the water levels were half a foot deep and he is expecting them to raise significantly over the next 24 hours.

"I'm just hoping we all stay safe because the flooding, the flooding tomorrow and Saturday is going to be fairly significant," Giles said.
