DelDOT Proposes Four-Way Stop at Dangerous Roxana Intersection

ROXANA, Del.  The Delaware Department of Transportation is looking to increase safety at a dangerous Sussex County intersection.

DelDOT is proposing to create a four-way stop at the intersection of Route 20 and Johnson and Bayard Roads in Roxana. The agency says the move would help the intersection's function and safety.

Deldot says 14 crashes have happened at that intersection in the past three years. Some people who work in the area wonder if a stoplight is a more permanent fix.

"A four-way may be a good patch on it for a while, a band aid, but I don't think it's the solution," Roxana Automotive owner George Smudin explains. "There are a lot of new developments down that road. There's so much traffic it's going to need a traffic light sooner or later anyway."

DelDOT plans to make changes to the intersection before the summer of 2019 and is accepting public comment until mid-February.
