Dover Approves Parking Meters for Downtown Area

DOVER, Del. --- Getting a parking space in front of your favorite Downtown Dove business could soon cost you a bit of money.

The city council on Monday approved an ordinance that enables the way for the Downtown Dover Partnership and a third-party vendor to implement and manage metered on-street parking in areas like the Loockerman Street corridor.

City planning director Dave Hugg said Wilmington-based Colonial Parking is likely to be the vendor that manages the city's parking inventory, which includes on-street parking and a number of lots owned by the city or the downtown partnership.

The shift to metered parking marks a significant change for Downtown Dover, which has primarily relied on free on-street parking in more recent years with various time limitations on particular spaces.
