DOVER, Del. - The Delaware Division of Public Health is advising Delawareans of the multi-state Listeria outbreak that has been linked to deli ham.

Several companies have recalled ham products that could be contaminated with the Listeria bacteria and could make people sick. There have not been any confirmed cases of the illness in Delaware, but DPH is urging residents to take precautions to prevent it.

Officials say the illness is particularly harmful to women who are pregnant because it could cause serious complications.

The CDC has reported that four people have been infected with Listeria in North Carolina and Virginia. All four of those people were hospitalized and one death was reported in Virginia.
