Fire That Destroyed Pit Stop Bar & Grill in Greenwood Ruled Arson

GREENWOOD, Del.- Authorities say a fire that caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to a bar and restaurant in Greenwood last month was intentionally started.

The fire happened at around 3 a.m. May 18 at The Pit Stop Bar and Grill on the first block of West Market Street.

According to the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office, fire damage was estimated at $500,000. A firefighter was transported from the scene for minor injuries.

On Wednesday, state fire investigators announced that they ruled the fire as arson.

Prior to the fire, Pit Stop had been shuttered for nearly a month after the town of Greenwood suspended its business license over an incident that occurred in April, according to the bar's Facebook page.

Anyone with information about this fire is asked to call the Sussex Division of the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office at 302-856-5600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
