Georgetown Community Remembers Officer Chad Spicer 10 Years Later

GEORGETOWN, Del. - It was 10 years ago Sunday when Georgetown police officer Chad Spicer was shot and killed responding to a call. A decade later, Georgetown still keeps Spicer's memory alive.

"We had the windows up in the house and we heard all these sirens, and I said, 'Oh my goodness, it sounds like New York City,' and then we heard through a telephone call that was received by a family member that Chad had been shot," said Ruth Ann Spicer.

To honor Spicer, officers at the Georgetown Police Department wear a pin with the badge number 9083.

"It was important that people realize and know who he was as a person, and that it still feels like he was around. So what it feels like to a lot of us is that it's not that he's no longer here completely. It's just maybe he's not at work today. There's not a day that goes by where his name doesn't get brought up -- a joke, something he did," said Joel Diaz.

His family, including his daughter, friends and town officials plan to lay a wreath in honor of him Sunday night in the heart of town at the Georgetown Circle.
