LEWES, Del. - Removing a long-time hardware store could be the fix for the Five Points intersection in Lewes.
Bests' Ace Hardware sits on property on Route one, which DelDOT now plans to purchase. DelDOT says there's no immediate plans for the property, but the agency anticipates needing the land for a future project to improve Five Points.
Those at Bests' say they believe they can lease the land from DelDOT for the next four years, and then go year-to-year after that.
"We are hoping we can get another location close to here for down the road, but we are hoping we can negotiate a good lease with the state to keep us here until they need it and find something in between," Randy Best, president of Bests' Ace Hardware, said.
Bests' has been there since 1968. Randy Best says while they love that location, they also value progress for the intersection in Lewes.
DelDOT is not releasing any more details until the sale goes through.
