LEWES, Del.- The Go Fourth Lewes Fireworks committee has announced that it has canceled its Labor Day fireworks event in Lewes due to the present Delaware state of emergency, which mandates social distancing and limits large gatherings.
The event, which was slated to take place the evening of Saturday, Sept. 5, was intended to take the place of Lewes' Fourth of July fireworks celebration.
"Sadly, we have been forced to cancel our 2020 fireworks, rather than postponing to Labor Day weekend," the committee said on the Go Fourth Lewes Fireworks website. "It's been a terrible spring and summer for our community. Delaware is still under a state of emergency that mandates social distancing and prohibits large public gatherings. Unfortunately, this prevents us from having fireworks, which is the type large event that is prohibited under current Delaware regulations."
The committee said it looks forward to holding its Fourth of July fireworks event in 2021.
