SUSSEX, Del. - The City of Rehoboth Beach has issued a mask mandate for all city facilities regardless of vaccination status, effective Monday August 16th. The new mandate applies to both visitors and employees.

According to the city manager, Sharon Lynn, employees are allowed to their take mask off when working individually seated at a desk in their office.

Mask must be worn in city buildings such as City Hall, Police Station, Public Works Department etc. The mandate does not apply to public restroom facilities.

"We have been vigilant up to this time, throughout the pandemic for the past 18 months and well continue to remain vigilant to protect not only the employees but the public," Lynn said.

The mandate does not apply to outdoor locations such as the beach or boardwalk. Privately owned businesses still have the option to mandate mask based on their discrepancy.

On Tuesday, August 9th, Governor Carney announced a mask mandate for all visitors and state employees in Delaware government facilities. Due to the states mandate, the City of Rehoboth Beach decided to follow in the footsteps of the state.

Although not required, Lynn said Rehoboth has complied with states guidance throughout the pandemic. "Throughout the pandemic we followed the governors orders, so whatever the governor comes out with well most likely do that again," Lynn explained.
