MILFORD, Del.- A developer is planning to construct a water park, a campground, and restaurants south of DE Turf near Frederica, making it the latest major redevelopment project in the area tied to the sports complex.

Business owner Steven Martin said the project also calls for building a campground for RVs and constructing a strip mall and space for a possible hotel along State Route 1 in the area of Old Cemetery Road. He said the county's planning department was expected to weigh in on the proposal and a traffic study had been submitted to the Delaware Department of Transportation.

"We're just finishing off the final details with them right now," he said.

Delaware Department of Transportation spokesman C.R. McLeod said the agency was evaluating it with respect to how it fits with the Master Plan and the Corridor Capacity Preservation Program.

"Access to the parcel would be from Old Cemetery Road and a service road that is proposed along the west side of Route 1.  We have not made final decisions or granted approvals as of this time," he said.

The plan would mark the latest major development tied to the presence of DE Turf and the crowds it brings during tournaments at the facility. Martin said the intention of the project was to help offer additional lodging options for families who have children visiting the sports complex for events.
